California TVS Operator Initial / Reinstatement — 8 Hour
The eight-hour program for anyone applying for an original or reinstated California traffic violator school operator license. Twenty-eight short lessons cover running a licensed school, from curriculum and teaching to records, staff, regulations and DMV actions, each built around a realistic case.
Who is this course for?
Choose the 8-hour course if you are applying for an original TVS operator license or reinstating one: as the school’s owner, or as the employee the owner designates to direct and manage it. DMV decides what your application requires; course completion is one part of it.
What you’ll study
- The operator’s role, licensing steps and the limits of school advice
- What a compliant TVS curriculum covers, including the OL 613 road-safety topics
- Teaching adults, accessibility and student participation online
- Records, retention, privacy and completion reporting
- Instructor authority, office procedures and the operator’s daily duties
- Statutes, regulations, advertising, complaints and DMV actions
Each lesson works through a realistic case from running a traffic violator school. Your progress saves between visits.
Course length and completion
This 8-hour program has 28 lessons and a final exam.
You need a current California driver license. Its number is printed on your Certificate of Completion, which you can print as soon as you pass.
After you finish
Print your Certificate of Completion as soon as you pass the final exam, and submit it with your TVS operator license application within one year of completing the course. Course completion is one requirement: DMV also reviews the rest of your application, including the operator examination for an original license.
